Jaguars rout Ravens 33-10 in Baltimore
Jaguars routed the depleted Ravens 33-10 in Baltimore on Thursday night, Jacksonville's fifth win in six games. The Ravens fell to 4-5 and have now lost four straight. Jacksonville improved to 6-2 and sits three and a half games ahead in the AFC South.
Baltimore walked into M&T Bank Stadium without starting quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley, both on injured reserve. Rookie Joe Fagnano, who made his first career start last weekend against Buffalo, got the call again and threw 10 of 18 for 60 yards with two interceptions. The Ravens tried to make up for it by lining up Derrick Henry in Wildcat formation again and again. Jacksonville coach Liam Coen said his defense was ready for it: 'We practiced Wildcat a ton.'
Lawrence and Little carry Jacksonville
Trevor Lawrence threw 16 of 26 for 242 yards and a touchdown, and Jacksonville never had to take a real risk. The Jaguars drove 77 yards on the opening possession and scored on a 1-yard run from Bhayshul Tuten to go up 7-0. 'That opening drive was huge, just to set the tone,' Lawrence said.
Jacksonville led 17-3 at halftime after Lawrence found Parker Washington for a 50-yard touchdown with 58 seconds left in the second quarter. Cam Little did the rest of the damage, hitting field goals of 36, 45, 47 and 33 yards. Chris Rodriguez Jr. capped it with a 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to make it 33-3.
Ravens offense can't keep pace
Baltimore managed only 227 total yards, 55 of them through the air on Fagnano's 10-for-18 night with two interceptions. The Ravens turned the ball over three times and were penalized seven times for 46 yards. Running back Justice Hill was the one bright spot, carrying nine times for 85 yards and scoring on a 65-yard run in the fourth quarter, Baltimore's only touchdown.
Tight end Mark Andrews finished with two catches for 19 yards. Linebacker Roquan Smith led the Ravens defense with eight tackles. Baltimore coach Jesse Minter did not make excuses for his depleted roster. 'Tough situation for our guys,' Minter said.
What's next for Baltimore and Jacksonville
The Ravens are waiting on Jacoby Brissett to take over at quarterback as Jackson and Huntley stay on injured reserve and Fagnano deals with an ankle issue. Baltimore is also dealing with injuries to Kyle Hamilton (hip, questionable), Adisa Isaac (hamstring, questionable) and Nate Wiggins (illness, out), and Kedon Slovis was out as a coach's decision.
Jacksonville has fewer problems to sort out. The Jaguars have won five of six and hold a three and a half game lead in the AFC South. Jacksonville was without Wesley Williams, CJ Williams, Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig and Alijah Huzzie, all out as coach's decisions, but none of it slowed Jacksonville down in Baltimore.
