Why stanford vs notre dame is trending: No. 3 Irish host Cardinal Saturday
Unbeaten Notre Dame hosts Stanford on Saturday afternoon with the Legends Trophy on the line, and the game has not been played yet.
Why this is trending
People are searching stanford vs notre dame because the two are playing each other Saturday afternoon and the game has not kicked off yet as of this writing. Notre Dame is ranked No. 3 and unbeaten at 5-0, hosting Stanford at Notre Dame Stadium at 3:30 p.m. ET.
It is Notre Dame's first home game in nearly a month, and it is also a rivalry game with some history. Notre Dame is going for a fourth straight win in the series, while Stanford is still looking for its first win over the Irish since a game in Indiana four years ago. The Legends Trophy goes to the winner.
What we know going in
Notre Dame has not needed a trophy case to show its form this season. The Irish beat North Carolina 37-26 last week, with quarterback CJ Carr completing 21 of 29 passes for 234 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Jonaz Walton added a career-high 120 rushing yards in that game. On the year, Carr has thrown for 1,197 yards with 13 touchdowns and just one interception, and he has run for three more scores himself. Notre Dame has scored at least 37 points in four of its five games and has won 15 straight games by double digits.
Stanford is coming off a rough one, a 57-3 loss at Wake Forest. Quarterback Davis Warren has thrown for similar yardage to Carr this season but with only five touchdown passes, and he has been sacked 10 times while running for negative 34 yards on the ground. Notre Dame's defense is not perfect either, having allowed three touchdown passes against North Carolina last week, which is the one crack Stanford would need to find.
What is not known yet, and what happens next
None of this has been decided. The game is set for Saturday afternoon, and nothing about the final score, injuries during the game, or how either team performs is known until it is actually played. Treat any number tied to a final result as unconfirmed until the game is over.
For now, this is a matchup between a team playing its best football of the season and a team that just got run off the field in Winston-Salem. Fans looking to watch can find the game on NBC Sports 4K or stream it on Fubo. Check back after kickoff for how it actually plays out on the field.
