Why this is trending

People are searching this because San Francisco police announced Wednesday that four men have been arrested in the shooting of 49ers defensive lineman Keion White back in February, according to ESPN. Police Chief Derrick Lew said the arrests came over the past week with help from law enforcement in Atlanta, Stockton, Irvine and Los Angeles.

Here is what is known. White was shot in the ankle just after 4 a.m. on Feb. 9 at the nightclub Dahlia in San Francisco's Mission District, where he was hosting a private Super Bowl party, per ESPN. He was taken to a hospital for surgery. Lew said multiple suspects with firearms confronted White that night, and investigators used video footage and witness accounts to identify the men they allege carried it out.

Here is what is not known yet. Two of the four men arrested are in custody in other jurisdictions and have not been transferred to San Francisco. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said they will be charged once they arrive. It is also not yet clear whether the San Francisco public defender's office is representing any of the men; ESPN reported a message was left with that office Wednesday without immediate reply.

What happens next: two of the men, Curtis Green and Gregory Walker, were booked into San Francisco County Jail on Monday and were scheduled to appear in court Wednesday afternoon, per ESPN.

The charges filed so far

According to Jenkins, as reported by ESPN, prosecutors will seek no bail for Walker, 36, of Mountain House, California, because of the public safety risk officials say he poses. He is accused of firing the weapon and will be charged with assault with a semiautomatic firearm, along with additional charges for possessing a gun as a felon.

Green, 35, arrested Oct. 7 in Irvine, faces misdemeanor charges of brandishing a firearm and carrying a concealed, loaded gun in public, Jenkins said. Those are the only two men ESPN confirmed are currently in San Francisco custody.

The other two arrests, and what turned up with them

ESPN reported that a 38-year-old man was arrested Oct. 7 in Atlanta on a no-bail warrant in connection with the shooting. Authorities said they seized an illegal firearm during that arrest, along with thousands of grams of MDMA, methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl at the man's home.

That same day, law enforcement arrested a 36-year-old man in Stockton, California, also in connection with White's shooting. Officials recovered a loaded firearm, more than 100 oxycodone pills and $7,000 in cash in that arrest, per ESPN. Jenkins said both men will face charges once they are brought to San Francisco.

Where White stands now

The shooting happened eight months ago, and the 49ers said at the time White underwent surgery on his ankle. Since then he has taken the field for every game the 49ers have played this season, five games, and has three sacks on the year, according to ESPN. This arrest news is about the criminal case catching up, not a new injury.
