Breece Hall ruled out again as Jets host Browns in Week 5

Why Breece Hall is trending

People are searching his name because head coach Aaron Glenn said Friday that Hall will not play Sunday when the Jets host the Browns. That makes it two games in a row missed for the running back, who is dealing with a quad injury he picked up in Week 3 against the Lions.

What we know: Hall is out, the injury is to his quad, and it dates back to that Lions game. What we do not know is a firm date for his return. The team has not put a number on it, and we are not going to guess one. What happens next is straightforward. The Jets play the Browns Sunday at home, that game has not been played yet, and Hall will watch it from the sideline.

He is not the only one sitting

Hall is one of four Jets starters Glenn ruled out for Sunday. Guard Dylan Parham, who got hurt the same day as Hall against the Lions, is also out for a second straight game. Receiver Adonai Mitchell and linebacker Kiko Mauigoa will each miss their third game in a row. Mitchell's injury is a finger issue that actually started during practice the week of the Lions game, not in the game itself.

Two other names to watch on the injury report: edge rusher Kingsley Enagbare (knee) and cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr., who is in the concussion protocol. Both were limited at practice this week, and Glenn said they were set to practice Friday.

Some players trending the other way

It is not all bad news on the injury front. Tight end Mason Taylor was a full practice participant this week after missing the last two games with a thumb injury, and the Jets are expecting him back in the lineup. Receiver Tim Patrick, who started the season on injured reserve, also returned to practice this week.

Glenn did not commit to Patrick's status for Sunday. "We'll see exactly how that goes and make a decision on that fairly quickly," he said, adding he liked where the banged-up players were trending.

What the Jets are saying about Cleveland

None of this has been played yet. The Jets and Browns meet Sunday at home for New York, and the preparation this week has centered on starting faster. Receiver Garrett Wilson said the emphasis has been on generating a quick start on offense, something the Jets have struggled with. They have scored in the first quarter only once this season, an opening-drive touchdown in Week 1.

Offensive coordinator Frank Reich broke down Cleveland's defense as a mix of man coverage from its corners and zone looks, with a front line he called especially good at movement and twists up front.
