Why 'baseball tonight' is trending

People are searching baseball tonight because the Brewers just took control of the NLCS. On Monday at American Family Field in Milwaukee, the Brewers beat the Dodgers 7-4 to go up 2-0 in the best-of-seven series. The game has already been played, so this is a result, not a preview. What's not settled yet is whether Milwaukee can close out the two-time defending champion Dodgers. The series shifts to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on FS1.

How Monday went

The Dodgers grabbed the lead three separate times in the first six innings, and three times the Brewers took it right back in the bottom half of that same inning. Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto was pulled after recording just eight outs, the shortest postseason start of his career. Milwaukee's biggest swing came in the third inning, when Jake Bauers worked a walk on the 12th pitch of an at bat that ran more than seven minutes. Christian Yelich followed with a two-out, two-run single that put the Brewers ahead for good. David Hamilton, who joined the team in February, scored three runs in the win.

What the Brewers and Dodgers said

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said his team is facing one of the best squads ever assembled, but it has not fazed them: "They don't care. They won't be denied." Longest-tenured Brewer Brandon Woodruff, 33 and currently on the injured list, said, "We're just tired of losing in the playoffs." Yelich kept the win in perspective: "We haven't accomplished anything yet," he said. "Still a long way to go." Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Yamamoto's outing, "He just didn't have it tonight. Which is very rare." Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy gave Milwaukee credit directly: "They're playing really well over there. They're a very good team."

What happens next

Milwaukee won a majors-best 103 games this season, three more than the Dodgers, and still came into this series as an underdog despite holding home-field advantage. The Brewers have not won a World Series in 58 years of existence. According to MLB.com, teams that have taken a 2-0 lead in a best-of-seven postseason series have gone on to win that series 79 times out of 95. Two of the 16 teams that have rallied from an 0-2 deficit did it in the last three seasons, the Blue Jays against the Mariners in last year's ALCS and the Diamondbacks against the Phillies in the 2023 NLCS. Game 3 is set for Wednesday night in Los Angeles.
