Bears beat Seahawks 34-17 to improve to 6-2
Bears beat Seahawks 34-17 on Monday night at Lumen Field in Seattle. Chicago improved to 6-2 on the season, while Seattle fell to 4-4 with its third loss in four games.
Chicago scored first on a 1-yard touchdown catch by Luther Burden III in the first quarter. Jason Myers answered with a field goal for Seattle, then Cairo Santos added two of his own to put the Bears up 13-3. Jaxon Smith-Njigba's 43-yard touchdown catch from Sam Darnold, with the extra point missed, cut it to 13-9 at halftime. D'Andre Swift's first touchdown run, from a yard out, made it 20-9 early in the third quarter. Seattle got as close as 20-17 in the fourth quarter on a Cooper Kupp touchdown catch and a two-point conversion pass to Tory Horton, but Swift answered with two more short touchdown runs to make the final 34-17.
Jeffery Simmons' first game with the Bears
Defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons made his Bears debut after Chicago acquired him from Tennessee last week in a trade that included two first-round picks. He had a sack on Chicago's opening defensive drive, added another tackle for loss and finished with six tackles, three pressures and a pass defensed.
Coach Ben Johnson called Simmons' impact on the defense profound. Receiver Rome Odunze said Simmons 'has me up off of the bench' watching what the defense does on third downs. Chicago held Seattle to 252 total yards and one third-down conversion on 11 tries.
Stat leaders for both teams
Caleb Williams completed 24 of 34 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown with no turnovers, taking just one sack. D'Andre Swift carried 27 times for 69 yards and three touchdowns, and Rome Odunze led Chicago's receivers with four catches for 87 yards.
For Seattle, Sam Darnold went 17 of 34 for 188 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught six passes for 118 yards and a touchdown, and Jadarian Price led the rushing attack with 29 yards on 10 carries. Chicago finished with 363 total yards to Seattle's 252.
Seahawks' skid and the injury list
The loss was Seattle's third in four games and ended a 30-game streak, in the regular season and playoffs, of never losing by more than four points, the fourth-longest such streak in the Super Bowl era. The defending champion Seahawks are now 4-4.
Leonard Williams is questionable for Seattle with a shoulder stinger, and Brandon Pili (back), Uchenna Nwosu (ankle) and Drew Lock (elbow) are out. Chicago, now 6-2, has its own questions: Kentavius Street (knee) and Grady Jarrett (groin) are questionable, Malik Muhammad II (toe) is out, and Case Keenum is out for a coach's decision.
