Draymond Green was courtside for Gabby Williams' Game 7
Draymond Green watched from courtside as Gabby Williams scored 30 points to win WNBA Finals MVP in the Valkyries' Game 7 title win.
Why Draymond Green is trending
Draymond Green was among those courtside at Chase Center in Oakland on Saturday night when Gabby Williams scored 30 points to help the Golden State Valkyries win the 2026 WNBA championship in the first Game 7 in WNBA history. Williams wore Air Jordan 41 sneakers for the game and was named WNBA Finals MVP afterward. That alone made Saturday's game a milestone for the WNBA, regardless of how it was decided.
The Chase Center and the Bay Area are no strangers to big playoff moments, and some of the people responsible for those moments were in the building to see this one. Golden State Warriors forward Green and San Francisco Giants legend Barry Bonds both watched from courtside as Williams put together a performance the Valkyries franchise will be talking about for a long time.
Gabby Williams' Game 7 numbers
Williams finished with 30 points, most of them in the second half, plus a game-high four blocks and two steals. The four blocks and two steals rounded out a stat line that covered both ends of the floor. Valkyries owner Joe Lacob did not hold back afterward. "Her second half ... legendary," he said. "That was unbelievable stuff."
Teammate Tiffany Hayes said the Valkyries had talked all season about having Gabby Williams, and you don't. Hayes called the performance "one of the greatest things I've ever seen" and said Williams took it upon herself to make sure the team would not lose. Golden State guard Veronica Burton said being on the floor while Williams took over the game still felt like watching from the stands, and that "to witness it was amazing."
Michael Jordan reached out
Williams told ESPN on Monday that among the many congratulatory messages she received after the title, one from Michael Jordan stood out, which carried extra weight considering she closed out the series in a pair of his Air Jordan 41 sneakers. The shoes were about as literal a connection to Jordan's legacy as a player can wear in a Finals clincher. Jordan's text read, "Stay hungry." Williams said she responded, "I've never been hungrier."
What Williams says is next
Williams said Monday she had not spent much time reflecting on her Game 7 performance, saying she is just living in the moment. "This was a really long month, a really long series," she said, and she has spent the days since focusing on her friends and family and soaking it in with her teammates. She said she doesn't think the team will ever have this exact group again, so she is trying to hold onto the moment as long as she can with these people. For a team that just won a championship, there was no hint of celebration fatigue, just gratitude for the group that got there.
