Football Trade deadline watch October 15, 2026 By Taproom Sports

Are Panthers positioned to add reinforcements before NFL trade deadline?

Carolina comes out of its bye at 2-2 and alone atop the NFC South, and with the Nov. 10 trade deadline four weeks away, the question is whether GM Dan Morgan goes shopping.

Why this is trending

People are searching this because the Panthers just came out of their bye week with their best four-game record in five seasons, sitting at 2-2 and alone on top of the NFC South, according to ESPN. That record, paired with the NFL trade deadline landing Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET, has ESPN asking whether Carolina will actually use the next four weeks to add players instead of just waiting on its own guys to get healthy.

Nothing has been decided and no trade has happened. This is a positioning story, not a transaction. ESPN reports that coach Dave Canales and GM Dan Morgan are in regular conversation about the roster, but no specific target or position has been named publicly.

Dan Morgan's history with draft capital

Morgan has run the Panthers front office since 2024, and ESPN describes him as methodical about giving up draft picks for outside players. His first clean pick-for-player trade, no player or pick coming back the other way, happened less than two months ago. In late August he sent a 2028 sixth-round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers for defensive lineman TeRah Edwards, who then played in all four of Carolina's games before the bye.

Canales told reporters Tuesday that he and Morgan talk roster moves constantly. "We're always open, we're always looking," Canales said, adding that he checks in with Morgan's office regularly to discuss players who might fit, from veterans to college prospects still being evaluated.

The injuries driving the roster math

Carolina's depth chart has holes right now, which is part of why the trade deadline matters more than usual. Starting right tackle Taylor Moton is out with a blood clot, starting defensive end Tershawn Wharton is dealing with a neck injury, and top returner Trevor Etienne is nursing an ankle issue. ESPN reports all three are expected to make their 2026 debuts in short order.

Carolina is coming off a Week 4 win over the Detroit Lions, and last season the team made the playoffs at 8-9. ESPN frames the current roster as one with real momentum, which is why Morgan adding outside help, on top of players already working their way back, could push the team past where it finished a year ago.

What happens next

The Panthers have not played this week's game yet. They are scheduled to visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS. That game comes before any trade decision gets made.

From there, the clock keeps running toward Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET, the deadline for teams to make trades. ESPN's reporting makes clear Carolina is better positioned than in past years to make a move if the right player becomes available, but as of this report no deal is in place and no specific trade target has been confirmed.
