Texans RB Montgomery, S Pitre out for London affair vs. Jaguars
Houston will be without starting running back David Montgomery and safety Jalen Pitre for Sunday's game against Jacksonville at Wembley Stadium.
Why Montgomery and Pitre are out
People are searching this because the Texans just ruled out two starters for a game across the pond. Houston heads to London to face Jacksonville without running back David Montgomery and safety Jalen Pitre, both out for Sunday's matchup at Wembley Stadium. The Texans sit at 1-4, the Jaguars at 4-1.
Both injuries trace back to last week. Montgomery is dealing with a groin issue and Pitre a shoulder issue, both suffered during Houston's 26-3 win over the Tennessee Titans. Each had started every game this season before getting hurt. The sheet does not say how long either is expected to be out beyond this week, and the game has not been played yet.
Montgomery's season and who replaces him
Montgomery has 138 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the ground this season, plus seven catches for 67 yards and a score through the air. All three of his touchdowns came in the season opener against Buffalo. He is averaging 2.7 yards per carry, a career low for him.
Second-year back Woody Marks is expected to take over the workload in London. Marks is averaging 3.5 yards per carry with 149 yards rushing and two touchdowns of his own this season.
Secondary change and Tank Dell's status
On the back end, rookie safety Kamari Ramsey is likely to step in for Pitre against Jacksonville.
Houston is also leaving receiver Tank Dell home for the trip. Dell is working back from a serious knee injury, torn ligaments and a dislocated kneecap, suffered in December 2024, an injury that kept him out all of the following season. The Texans opened his practice window on Oct. 7, and he has practiced the past two weeks without a setback. He started this season on injured reserve with a designation to return, a move the team made when it cut its roster before the opener. Dell was a third-round pick in 2023 and had 51 catches for 667 yards and three touchdowns before the injury.
What's next
The Texans and Jaguars play Sunday at Wembley Stadium in London. The game has not been played. Houston goes in at 1-4 looking to replace production at both running back and safety, while Jacksonville arrives at 4-1. No further word yet on when Montgomery, Pitre or Dell might be back on the field.
