Why rutgers vs maryland is trending

People are searching rutgers vs maryland because the two Big Ten teams kick off Saturday, Oct. 17, at 12:30 p.m. ET, with both sides still looking for their first Big Ten win of the season. The game airs on Big Ten Network and streams on Fubo.

Rutgers comes in at 1-4 and Maryland at 2-4, with the Terrapins riding a four-game losing streak. Neither team has a Big Ten win yet, which is the simple reason this matchup is drawing attention right now.

What is not yet known is which Rutgers quarterback will start. Dylan Lonergan left Rutgers' last game with a head injury, and the sheet does not say whether he is cleared to play Saturday. What happens next is straightforward: kickoff is 12:30 p.m. ET, and the game will settle both teams' search for a first conference win.

How each team got here

Maryland fell to 0-3 in Big Ten play last week with a 45-16 loss at then-No. 5 Ohio State. Malik Washington pulled the Terrapins within 14-10 on a five-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, but Ohio State built a 31-10 halftime lead and pulled away. Daniel Wingate scored Maryland's other touchdown on a 52-yard interception return late in the third quarter. Maryland managed only 146 total yards of offense in that game.

Rutgers is coming off a bye after a 47-15 loss to then-No. 6 Indiana on Oct. 3. The Scarlet Knights trailed 37-0 before backup quarterback AJ Surace found Ben Black III for a 53-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter. Clay Thevenin added a one-yard touchdown run early in the fourth. Surace went 6-of-10 for 128 yards after Lonergan went down with a head injury in the second quarter.

The numbers behind the matchup

Washington has thrown for 1,352 yards with seven touchdowns and six interceptions this season, and Chris Durr Jr. has 46 catches for 476 yards and four scores for Maryland.

Lonergan has 775 passing yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions in four games for Rutgers. Antwan Raymond leads the ground game with 469 yards and four touchdowns, and KJ Duff has 33 catches for 628 yards and seven touchdowns.

Maryland leads the all-time series 12-9, but Rutgers has won the last two meetings, including a 35-20 home win on Nov. 8.
