Maxx Crosby trade buzz grows in postgame comments after Raiders' 35-21 loss to Rams

Why Crosby's name is trending

Maxx Crosby is trending because the postgame comments around the Raiders' 35-21 loss to the Rams on Sunday turned into trade talk. Las Vegas dropped its fourth straight game as Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford set a franchise touchdown pass record in the win. In the aftermath, analyst Jason La Canfora's report linking Crosby to the Dallas Cowboys started circulating again.

The loss itself was ugly up front. The Rams ran for 187 yards on Sunday, pushing the Raiders' total rushing yards allowed over the past five weeks to 792, an average of 158.4 per game. Crosby is not solely responsible for that number, but a defensive front bleeding that much on the ground is part of why his name keeps coming up in trade conversation.

Crosby was already drawing trade speculation earlier this season, back when the Raiders opened 3-0. That hot start is gone now, replaced by Sunday's loss and a run defense that has been gashed for five straight weeks.

Where the trade talk started

Writing on Oct. 21, league insider Jason La Canfora listed Crosby as a possible target for the Cowboys. He quoted an anonymous general manager telling him, "Jerry is getting a pass rusher," a reference to Dallas owner Jerry Jones. The Cowboys sit at 2-4 heading into a Monday night game at the equally 2-4 Eagles, hardly a record that suggests a team going all in, but La Canfora's point was that Jones has never let a middling record stop him from chasing a big name before.

Dallas has been here before

The comparison point is a year old. On Nov. 3, 2025, the Cowboys fell to the Cardinals 39-24 at home, dropping to 3-5-1 and 3.5 games behind the 6-2 Eagles. The next day, Jones traded defensive tackle Mazi Smith along with a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 first-round pick to the Jets for defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.

That deal looked like a win when Dallas won its next three games. Then the Cowboys lost four of their final five and finished 7-9-1, well behind the 11-6, division-winning Eagles and 12th overall in the NFC.

What's actually known right now

None of this means a Crosby trade is close. The Raiders have traded him before, and his name was already surfacing in rumors even during the 3-0 start. Whether Las Vegas would actually part with him remains the open question, and nothing in the reporting so far answers it. For now, it is a pundit's trade idea built on an anonymous quote, not a done deal.
