Judkins, Schwesinger ankle injuries add to Browns' injury woes
Browns running back Quinshon Judkins and linebacker Carson Schwesinger are both day-to-day with ankle injuries from Sunday's loss to the Jets, coach Todd Monken said.
Why Judkins and Schwesinger are trending
People are searching Judkins and Schwesinger because both Browns players got hurt in the same game and the team is now dealing with a pile of injuries at once. Running back Quinshon Judkins and linebacker Carson Schwesinger both picked up ankle injuries during Sunday's road loss to the New York Jets. Both players finished the game, but each walked out of the postgame locker room in a walking boot on the right foot, worn as a precaution.
Coach Todd Monken addressed both injuries on Monday in Berea, Ohio. That press conference is where the ankle news became public and why the search traffic picked up.
What we know so far
Monken called Judkins' issue a "tweak" in his ankle and listed him as day-to-day. Schwesinger's injury has more detail attached to it. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Schwesinger suffered a Grade 1 ankle sprain, which is the mildest grade of sprain.
Those two are not the only banged-up Browns. Rookie wide receiver KC Concepcion is in the NFL's concussion protocol after getting knocked out of Sunday's game on an illegal hit from Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Right tackle Tytus Howard did not finish the game because of a knee injury. Defensive tackles Mason Graham and Mike Hall Jr. were already inactive for Sunday with leg injuries before any of this. The loss to the Jets dropped Cleveland to 3-2 and second place in the AFC North.
What's not known and what's next
Monken did not give a firm return timeline for either Judkins or Schwesinger beyond the day-to-day label, and day-to-day does not mean either player is cleared to practice or play right away. There is no word yet on whether Concepcion, Howard, Graham or Hall will be ready either.
What's next is the schedule. Cleveland hosts the Baltimore Ravens, who sit at 4-1 and lead the AFC North, in Week 6. That game has not been played yet. Whatever happens with this group of injuries over the next several days will shape who is actually available when it kicks off.
