Jaguars LT Anton Harrison out for season with torn ACL
Surgery on Thursday revealed a torn ACL in Anton Harrison's right knee, ending the Jaguars left tackle's season after he was hurt blocking in Jacksonville's Week 5 win over Philadelphia.
Harrison is done for the year
Jacksonville Jaguars left tackle Anton Harrison will not play again this season. Arthroscopic surgery on Thursday revealed a torn ACL in his right knee, league sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The surgery also showed just how bad the injury was that Harrison suffered during the Jaguars' Week 5 win over Philadelphia.
Harrison, 24, got hurt while blocking on a running play, a sweep to the right by Bhayshul Tuten. He grabbed his right knee after disengaging from the block and went down. He left the field on a cart.
From injured reserve to surgery
The Jaguars placed Harrison on injured reserve on Oct. 13, before the full extent of the damage was known. It was not until Thursday's surgery that the torn ACL was confirmed, closing the book on his season.
The timing means Jacksonville spent more than a week without clarity on how long Harrison would actually be out, only to learn this week that the answer is the rest of the year.
Harrison's path to the starting job
Harrison was the 27th overall pick in the 2023 draft and spent training camp this year moving from right tackle to left tackle. Before the injury, he ranked 39th among offensive tackles with an 83.7% pass block win rate, four spots behind Jaguars right tackle Cole Van Lanen's 84.4%.
The team had shown long-term faith in him, picking up his fifth-year option back in April. That commitment is unaffected by this injury, even with the season now over for him.
What comes next
The Jaguars have not announced who takes over at left tackle, and that decision will shape their offensive line the rest of the way. Harrison's recovery timeline into next season has also not been detailed yet.
For now, the news is simply that Jacksonville loses its left tackle for the remainder of the year, with the surgery Thursday confirming what the cart ride off the field in Week 5 already suggested was serious.
