Devin Singletary's overtime touchdown gives Giants 27-21 win over Texans
Devin Singletary's 30-yard touchdown run in overtime gave the Giants a 27-21 win over the Texans in Houston.
Singletary ends it in overtime
Devin Singletary's 30-yard touchdown run in overtime gave the New York Giants a 27-21 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday at Reliant Stadium. Houston got the ball first in overtime and went three and out, with Kayvon Thibodeaux dropping what could have been an interception on second down. New York then drove into position for Singletary to finish it off.
The two teams traded leads and ties most of the afternoon. Houston tied it at 21 when Xavier Hutchinson caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from C.J. Stroud with 52 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and neither side could get into position to win it before time ran out in regulation.
McCarthy and Skattebo carried the offense
J.J. McCarthy made his first start of the season for the Giants after coach John Harbaugh benched Jameis Winston, and he went 20 of 28 for 252 yards. It was also the stadium where McCarthy won a national title with Michigan back in January 2024.
Cam Skattebo ran 17 times for 124 yards and a touchdown, including a 16-yard score with about nine minutes left that put New York up 21-14, plus a long run that helped set up the winning drive. Malik Nabers caught 7 passes for 111 yards. The Giants finished with 420 total yards and 22 first downs to Houston's 237 and 15, and neither team turned the ball over.
Texans couldn't finish it
C.J. Stroud threw two touchdown passes but was held to a season-low 153 yards on 17 of 28 passing. Woody Marks led the Houston run game with 19 carries for 66 yards, and Dalton Schultz caught 5 passes for 45 yards. The Texans were flagged 10 times for 80 yards.
Houston got a touchdown from Marvin Harrison Jr., who scored in his second game with the Texans since being traded from the Cardinals two weeks ago, and from Hutchinson's late catch that forced overtime. Danielle Hunter had a sack and M.J. Stewart led the defense with 12 tackles.
Records and the injury list
The loss drops Houston to 2-5 overall and 0-4 at home. New York improves to 4-2-1 and 1-1-1 on the road. Houston listed David Montgomery out with a groin injury and Jaylin Noel as questionable with a toe injury. New York had Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. both questionable with hamstring injuries, and both wound up playing a role in the win.
Tank Dell made his return for Houston after missing close to two years recovering from a knee injury, catching one pass for 43 yards and returning a punt for 14 yards.
