Bengals beat Dolphins 31-24 as Joe Burrow throws four touchdowns
Joe Burrow threw four touchdown passes and Ja'Marr Chase hauled in a one-handed score as Cincinnati beat Miami 31-24 at Hard Rock Stadium.
Bengals snap the skid in Miami
Cincinnati beat Miami 31-24 on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium, ending a two-game slide for the Bengals and dropping the Dolphins to 0-5. Cincinnati improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the division. Miami is 0-2 in the division as well.
Joe Burrow completed 23 of 32 passes for 190 yards and four touchdowns, spreading the ball to nine different receivers. He found Mike Gesicki from 4 yards out in the first quarter, hit Samaje Perine for a 6-yard score and Tanner Hudson for a 2-yard score in the second quarter, then connected with Ja'Marr Chase for a 45-yard touchdown late in the third. Perine also led Cincinnati on the ground with 68 yards on 14 carries.
Chase comes down with a one-hander
Chase had missed practice time during the week after a concussion the previous Sunday against Jacksonville, but he was the one making the signature play here. He caught the 45-yard touchdown pass with one arm while cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. defended him, pushing the score to 28-10. Chase finished with six catches for 77 yards.
Safety Jordan Battle added two interceptions off Malik Willis, both in the second quarter on back-to-back Miami drives. Cincinnati's defense also got a sack from Jonathan Allen, and linebacker Barrett Carter led the Bengals with 11 tackles.
Willis and the Dolphins never caught up
Malik Willis had just five completions in the first half and finished 15 of 27 for 137 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for Miami. He also lost a fumble. Ollie Gordon II gave the Dolphins an early answer with an 88-yard, 18-carry day on the ground that included a 1-yard touchdown run, and Gordon's score tied the game 7-7 in the first quarter before Cincinnati pulled away.
Miami out-gained Cincinnati 331 total yards to 307 and out-rushed the Bengals 217 to 117, but three turnovers and seven penalties for 30 yards kept the Dolphins from closing the gap until it was too late. Kevin Coleman Jr. caught a touchdown in the fourth quarter, and Willis capped the comeback bid with a 1-yard touchdown run with 45 seconds left, cutting the deficit to 31-24. Riley Patterson's extra point attempt hit the left upright, and the onside kick that followed went out of bounds to end it.
The injury list and what's ahead
Miami's injury report lists JuJu Brents (neck stinger), Michael Taaffe (chest) and Jonah Savaiinaea (ankle) as questionable, with Kaytron Allen out for a coach's decision. Cincinnati's Swayze Bozeman is questionable with a right arm injury, while Colbie Young is out with a knee injury and Landon Robinson and Connor Lew were both out for coach's decisions.
Cincinnati moves to 3-2 on the season with the win, while Miami falls to 0-5. Evan McPherson made both of his field goal and extra point attempts for the Bengals, including a 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that made it 31-18 before Miami's late score.
